Southeast Asia’s largest furniture trade show, the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) celebrated its 30th anniversary with a gala dinner on 8 December 2023. The event gathered 500 distinguished guests, including loyal exhibitors and business partners, highlighting the significant milestones achieved by MIFF in the Malaysian furniture industry.
Founded in 1995, MIFF has been instrumental in expanding Malaysia’s furniture sector and is recognised as one of the top 10 global furniture trade events. It serves as the primary export platform for Malaysian wooden and office furniture in Southeast Asia. Over its 30 years, MIFF has generated cumulative sales of US$18.4 billion and attracted approximately 182,000 buyers from 141 countries. The fair recorded an exceptional year in 2023, achieving US$1.21 billion in on-site sales with 673 exhibitors.
MIFF was founded by Datuk Dr Tan Chin Huat, starting with just 152 domestic exhibitors. The inclusion of foreign exhibitors began in 1999, and their numbers have steadily increased due to MIFF’s appeal to international markets. Datuk Dr Tan praised the Malaysian furniture industry and local authorities for their ongoing support, emphasising MIFF’s role as a flagship for Malaysian furniture exports and reinforcing the country’s position as a global producer.
During the gala, 117 loyal exhibitors were recognised for their enduring participation, with 17 companies celebrated for exhibiting for over 25 years.
Among them were Boston Office Furniture, C. K. Ban Soon Lee Industries, Chuanheng Furniture Products, Kinheng Furniture, Latitude Tree Furniture, LB Furniture, Merryfair Chair System, Pipesway Furniture, Poh Huat Furniture Industries, Seng Yip Furniture, Seni Daya Woods Industries, Shantawood, Winner Office Network, YB Woodwork Industry, Forest Research Institute Malaysia, Malaysian Timber Council and Malaysian Timber Industry Board.
Datuk Dr Tan also acknowledged the Malaysian government and its agencies for their strong backing, as well as the Muar Furniture Association, which has been a strategic partner for the past decade. MFA will continue to play a vital role in promoting Malaysia’s furniture industry on the global stage, fostering growth and innovation in the sector.
